Janine is a California native and has lived there her entire life except for a brief period of time when she lived and worked in the Big Apple, New York City.

Being a stewardess for United Air Lines developed Janine’s interest in travel.  She worked for travel agencies in Sacramento and San Francisco before returning to Modesto where she eventually opened her own business.  Janine’s Travel Service celebrated its 30th anniversary May 2007.

Janine joined Modesto Rotary Club in January 1992.  She immediately involved herself in committee work and was president of the Cog Committee when a new member.  In 2001-2002 Janine served as the first woman president of her club, the “old man’s” club and the largest club in the District. She has been Secretary/Treasurer of Modesto Rotary since April 2003.  More recently Janine has been involved in the activities of District 5220 having served as Assistant District Governor, chair of a Mid-year Leadership Assembly and chair of the District’s Black-tie Centennial Gala.  She has served on a District Conference Committee, Foundation Dinner Committee and organized a Club Secretaries Workshop for several District Assemblies. Janine also chaired the District-wide meeting where R.I. President Carl Wilhelm-Stenhammer was the featured speaker.  Currently she sits on the District Budget & Finance Committee.

Janine recently traveled to El Salvador for the Central America Rotary Clubs Projects

Fair.  Attending this annual event provided insight into the tremendous work of Rotarians throughout Central America and information on the many worthwhile Rotary projects that are in need of partner clubs.

In addition to Rotary, Janine has been very active in her community.  She served a term as an elected member of the Modesto City Council, being appointed vice-mayor at her first council meeting.  She has served on the local board of the United Way, the Salvation Army, YMCA, Muir Trail Girl Scouts Council, Memorial Medical Center, Modesto Chamber of Commerce, Doctors Medical Center  Foundation and Modesto Commerce Bank.  In addition, Janine has been elected president of Community Hospice, Stanislaus Community Foundation, Kids Works and Soroptimist International of Modesto North.

Janine met Jim, a tax accountant turned travel agent now retired, when he came into her travel agency to plan a skiing trip in Switzerland after the April 15th tax deadline.  They have been married 28 years and she is stepmother to Jim’s three children.  Jim was a member of Modesto Gateway Rotary from 1984-1993 and has been a member of Modesto Sunrise Rotary since 1999.  He has served on the Board of Directors and been an active member of his club.  Together Janine and Jim enjoy working on both their club’s community service projects and fund raisers.

Both Janine and Jim are Multiple Paul Harris Fellows.  In their spare time they both like to travel and Jim enjoys a round of golf.
