DISTRICT SIMPLIFIED GRANT (DSG)

2007-2008

The District Simplified Grant for D5220 Clubs is available at this time. The DSG is designed to support activities and humanitarian endeavors within individual Rotary Districts. The grant enables Rotary Clubs to use a portion of their District Designated Funds (DDF) for community projects. A limited number of $1,000 grants will be awarded this year. The sponsoring Club or Clubs must contribute a minimum of $1,000 toward the project when approved. DSG's must be forwarded to Mel Hansen, Grants Select Committee Chairman, by September 1, 2007.

UPDATE 9-27-07: Here are the awardees:

1.  Gustine - Upgrade the Rotary kitchen.  Install a new sink, new doors, paint the building.  City of Gustine will assist with installations.

 2.  North Stockton - "GO BEFORE YOU SHOW".  Support a pre-natal care program for infants in San Joaquin County.

 3.  Patterson - Literacy project:  purchase 450 dictionaries for third graders in the Patterson Unified School District.

 4.  Sonora Sunrise - Purchase a new microfilm scanner for the local library.

 5.  Groveland - Purchase a new log splitter.  The Club will work closely with the local food bank. 

 6.  Madera - Install a Wi-Fi network in the greater Madera area, purchase 15 computers, printers, etc. for needy students.

 7.  Turlock - Literacy project:  purchase 350 dictionaries for Turlock schools.

 8.  Lathrop - The Club will be supporting the local Lathrop Senior Center this year.  Emphasis on "Giving Tree" between grand parents and grand children.

 9.  Madera Sunrise - Monument to be installed in Madera Sunrise Rotary Sports Complex.  Madera Parks Department will assist in project.

10.  Ceres - Literacy project:  Expand the dictionary project to three new schools.  Total of 270 dictionaries to be distributed.

11.  Stockton - Playground equipment for children at the Stockton Shelter for the Homeless. 

12.  Escalon Sunrise - Haven of Peace:  Paint the building, purchase a new storage shed.  Escalon Interact supports the community project.

13.  Riverbank - Jacob Myers Park:  Build a BBQ and shade cover for the local residents.  Community is major supporter in upgrading the park.

14.  Merced - Tenaya School - purchase boys/girls basketball uniforms.  Improve student image of very poor children.

15.  Atwater - Students will go to Bellevue Nursery and learn about growing plants, there are plans to sell plant material in the community.

16.  Manteca - Hunger project:  Club will be working with Second Harvest, goal is to collect 3000 cans before Thanksgiving.

17.  Modesto East - Paradise South Weed and Seed Project.  Goal is to reduce serious crime program.  Funds for video information.

18.  Angels-Murphys - Beautify Main Street: purchase benches, flowering plants, etc.  Attract more visitors to the Gold Rush community.

19.  Salida - Purchase three drinking fountains for the Salida downtown park.

20.  Arnold - Literacy project:  Establish a "Reading Buddies" program at Hazel Fischer School in Arnold.

21.  Newman - Support installation of a new football scoreboard at Orestimba High School.  Project involves four community groups.

22.  Tracy Sunrise - Purchase clothes, toletries, etc. for foster children in Tracy. 

23.  Ripon - Literacy project:  purchase books for the library of the newest school in Ripon Unified - Park View Elementary.
